Progress

This is the massing that I come up with after all the modifications. I tried to keep in mind all the comments about the site and how the building relates to it.  I still miss the glass on the facade, this is just the shape of the building that will change while adding the glass into it.
The program will stay the same as I described it in the previous slides.
Floor plans depend on the shape of the slab that depends on the final massing shape, that is the reason why I don't have them posted yet.
In my opinion the massing looks connected with the ribbon (finally) but now is a bit to heavy, I believe that would change after the transparency of the glass will come up into the picture.
If you folks, Elena and Rafael,  have some suggestions how to modify the shape of this massing I would appreciate it.

Thank you !

  1. Nadejda,
If I am not mistaken you have three or less weeks to finish this project which calls out for plans, elevations, sections, renders and diagrams to back up your design. The uploads you have, have been very schematic and only showing a full building massing in this last upload. I’m sure there has been a lot of talking and going back and forth between ideas but please keep in mind you are expected to have a building and all of those requirements fulfilled.
Your building still does not show a clear structure frame, I understand the spiral is the structure but it only touches the ground if I am not mistaken 6 times. That translates into 6 columns, for a building that is two blocks in size. At the same time, your building shape (as it has successful shown movement and stretching of the human body) does not look fluent as a dancer with a ribbon on the air (the dancer is fine, the ribbon, not so much). Perhaps the red ribbon may change in form and the structure becomes something else, something that really holds the building (FYI, just a suggestion, please check with your professor). As for the shape in itself, it is going to be hard for you to picture the spaces within the building because of the wrapping form. Don’t be discourage by this, I believe you can square off some parts of it to have more usable space and make your life easier when creating the sections and showing interior spaces. Try to create less edges. For example the wider tip, the one on the air, has unnecessary edges and breaks, you can clean that up without compromising the stretching of the dancer. Also, you have forgotten about the landscape. Make sure you develop your grounds as green areas, hard surfaces, sitting areas and what-not to fulfill your program.
Please try to upload and work faster as you get closer to your final date.
You have a good design, it needs some tweaking and a lot of work. Please try to get done as much as you can in the following days and upload more often to make more suggestions.
    Good luck.

  2. Dear Nadejda, you have shown huge progres...I am sure you worked hard on your design.

I am also concerned about the red ribbon...it somehow doesn`t look that `structural`. Maybe this shape now needs some structure inside....and maybe you can put the ribbon inside and make it like a part of the interior (check the Maximilano Fuksas interior for Armani boutique...you will find a red ribbon there as well). I agree with Rafael about the sections...Now you should try to engage the program within this form..and maybe you will want to change something so you can have better organisation. First, you can start by positioning the main entrance, the exits and the entrances/exits for the dancers and other employees...that step should lead you to the possible organisation...
Also make decision what should be positioned towards the see and what should go to the back of the plot. At the beginning you should also place the communication spots - staircases, elevators (and maybe escalators) together with toilets and some additional technical rooms.
And yes...whatever you need...just post and we will try to help you.
