Main Dance Hall on the 4th floor in the public area of the building. View from Outside.
Main Dance Hall (public). View from inside
Ground floor area between 2 sides of the building (public and private) represents the outdoor citing. Left side entrance for the public-performance area with a cafe on the ground level.Right side entrance for the private area-dance school. Upper Level is a restaurant with a path that connects both sides.
View to the performing areas from the restaurant and connecting path.
View from a different angle to show how the building functions and gets connected. Right side has 2 floors for the dance school, dance classes.
Green Stairs represent the architectural stairs that bring people to different levels in both sides of the building. As well customers from restaurant can exit from both fire rated stairs.
The triangular shapes represent the skin of the building. Still in progress, I'm thinking how to cover it without loosing the accent on the red ribbon. Light blue represents the glass to keep some transparency of the building in certain areas. Dark gray solid walls/triangular shape.
Dark blue area is bellow the ground that again connects the building. This space would be used for changing area and some more studios for the dance classes.
Dark yellow boxes - fire rated staircase and elevator. Bigger box on the right side represents the scissor stairs.
I am thinking to make them transparent with a fireproof glass.
Dear Nadejda,
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you uploaded these images. I was going to comment on the first set but there is no need anymore. As I mentioned in my first comment, I think you’re trying to make your diagram, architecture. There is no need to make your building that diagram. Your first try was (I think) a poor one since your dancers became floor slabs and your spiral became just a spiral… But I can see in this new set of images that you’re trying very hard to keep the idea of dancers and the spiral true to your design. I wish you could find a way to make your building a massing model and still be compliant to your idea. (Your dancers can be your building enclosure or sculptures within your building as moments in the architecture).
Hints: - Remember that the whole building does not have to be the diagram, having a successful building includes not only an architectural idea but also site context and program. You are missing context: views, streets, water, sun/wind, and most importantly, connection to the street and NYC. I wish you had maps and sketches of your building on top of a site plan. Something that showed your idea and your site ‘forces’ interacting to create architecture; this would result in architecture and landscape development. Maybe this will help you to get away from the slabs and start creating a massing of your building and landscape. Something that is more of a volume interacting with your site rather than floor slabs.
Dear Nadejda....I would also like to see this images with the surroundings....I remember the plot was narrow and long...you would n`t like to make a building like this `stuck` in between two structures. Maybe the site and the masses there will make a hint for you to see if you should change something in the design. Now that you added the triangular shaped glass shells it seems like there are too much elements....but lack of clear mass as Rafael notes as well. Maybe you can start reducing some elements..and see do you need them all - the ribbon, the slabs, the cubic staircases...
ReplyDeleteDear Elena and Rafael, Thank you very much for your great comments, I appreciate that you are following my blogger and I agree with all your comments. I will make all the changes and I'll update them soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Nadejda,
ReplyDeleteI'll say it three times. site, site and site + program program and program + architectural idea = Building, landscape and building concept.
